HPE designs and develops UV LED systems for the curing and drying of UV-based products such as inks, varnishes, resins and adhesives in high-productivity industrial processes. The continuous technological progress in LED production, through the use of modular COB (Chip On Board) cards, makes it possible to achieve a highly selective and powerful emission of monochromatic irradiation. Each COB consists of a variable number of LEDs (24 - 32 - 40) and is equipped with a focal lens and includes 4 chips with a unit power of 880mW @1500 mA. Therefore, each LED emits 10.56W on a surface of 0.49 cm2: the maximum power is therefore 21.5 W/cm2.
The spectrum of the UV LEDs depends on the type of doping of the semiconductor materials. Unlike arc lamps, LEDs emit only one very intense wavelength. The wavelengths available, depending on the doping of the semiconductor used, are: 365 - 385 - 395 - 405 nm.
The MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of the single LED chip under ideal conditions (Tj < 110°) exceeds 20,000 hours of operation. The graph shows that the loss of efficiency is less than 20% (Tj=70°) after about 14,000 hours of use.
The range of UV LED lamps is available in different wavelengths, from 365 nm to 405 nm. The arc length is available in a wide range, from 12 to 150 cm and more, to suit each specific installation. The heat generated by the semiconductor is effectively disposed of through a fluid cooling system: this allows maximum irradiance, dissipating the excess heat. The system consists of a pre-loaded circuit that cools the semiconductors and is managed by the software that controls the thermal condition of the LEDs by means of temperature sensors present in each COB. To ensure the correct temperature of the fluid, the software is able to regulate solenoid valves specifically inserted in the liquid loop that is installed between the cooling chiller and the LED lamp.

The change of control from traditional UV to UV LED is automatic: the static converter recognizes the intended output to be powered. The operator only has to change the lamp holder.
